Evolution

Build me up, strip me down

Put me on earth, on solid ground

I live in the desert, I live in a cave

In turns I am frightened, then hungry, then brave

I seek out another who looks just like me

With a face and two legs and a mind that is free

We gather in clans, look out with our eyes

Seeing others like us in a similar guise

We want the same things, but is there enough?

Wait, they're not just like us, it's time to get tough

So we take up our clubs and hunt them with rage

This is our place, so please disengage

It's mine, it's ours, it's his, it's yours

My cave, my desert, my place on the earth

I love those just like me, and hate those who are not

So let us build walls to keep out the rot

And now we're evolving, we need to survive

Let's put plants in the ground and live in a tribe

The others go elsewhere and call it their own

But we'll stick together so we won't be alone

Evolution, evolution, we are so great

Our minds are evolving, so let us now hate

Those not like us living outside our gate

On the plain, in a cave, in a forest, by the sea

Not like us, not like us, not me, not me

It's time now for our soul to seek out a meaning

In all of this chaos brought about by our being

Call it faith or religion or simply belief

Our separation's evolving, it's almost complete

Who are these others, they aren't our brothers

And who are their fathers and mothers?

Deny them a place in our clan

Pick a leader to enforce the ban

Build a wall across the land

Hunt them down, woman, child and man

Get them out of our sight

Their presence just isn't right

Spout words to make us fight

Dim the light, dim the light, dim the light

Evolution, what a powerful force

Is it really a matter of course

Or even for us to endorse

Would a change in our future be worse?

Man in cave, man in house, man on earth

Evolving towards a type of rebirth

Where the cave fits us all

And the seeds grow tall

Each one of us knowing our worth

Build me up, strip me down

Put me in a city, country and town

I am everywhere, but can't find that cave

I am brave, you are brave, we are brave

The earth holds us all

And we're not gonna fall

So tear down that wall

Let us please heed the call

Of our own evolution

Cuz we need a solution

To our plight, stop this fight

Use our minds, use our hearts

Make a start
